The Sleaziest PEOPLE in the World
If you want to know how bad British politicians really are, look no further than Philip Hammond, back in 2016 complained that the courts have no right to overrule his decisions ‘under Royal perogrative’. What was he complaining about?
The story starts with a certain Saudi billionaire Sheikh Walid Juffali. He married Christine Estrada, a Pirelli Catalogue model. She was divorcing him because he was marrying a third wife concurrently.
To avoid the expense of divorce suffered by all billionaires, the Sheikh became Ambassador to St Lucia to the International Maritime Organisation, a UN agency located next to Lambeth Palace.
The High Court though overruled the government, and Hammond, over the Sheikh’s right to claim diplomatic immunity because he had no connection to either St Lucia or shipping.
Philip Hammond was outrageed stating the High Court
“erred in concluding that it was necessary (or permissible) for the court to ‘look behind’ the Foreign and Commonwealth Office certificate, which confirmed that [Juffali] had been appointed to the post of permanent representative of St. Lucia to the IMO and to consider whether (he) had taken up the post or exercised any functions in connection with it.”
Why so upset Phil? It’s because his department, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office must have intervened on behalf of the Sheikh to get the diplomatic immunity. Phil didn’t like the idea that courts and law can overturn his decisions – like some tin pot government dictator!
Subsquently The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has intervened to support Juffali by submitting to the Court of Appeal a legal opinion that the Court has no right to question Hammond’s decision to grant immunity.
Why is this story important? Although we won’t include stories like this in our film: ‘The World Stripped Bare’ it does show how medieval regimes are supported by the UK government. It’s why the City of London Corporation (another medieval regime within London – a government within a government) is so powerful, and how the politicians have to dance to the tune those with money pay them.
At the time, the reports suggested that the Sheikh, now dead, was the sleaziest man in the world. I’d suggest that the Conservative Party are the sleaziest people in the world.
