Drones for Resorts

December 2, 2021 John Clarkson Drones, Shooting

Advertise your Hotel, Resort Golf Course by building video assets - assets you can use again and again!

There are currently (as of 2021) approximately 1 billion users of Instagram. Many of these also use YouTube. Now imagine that nearly all of them will at some time want to go on holiday. How do they choose where to stay? By price? Yes of course. By location? Without a doubt? But why your hotel or resort? Why use your golf course? Why stay with you? What’s going to be the first reason for using you? Images and videos. The better they are, the more likely the customers will get in touch.

Companies often think that when a recession occurs that is the time to reduce marketing! Wrong! That is the best time to do more on marketing  assets. Assets are videos and images, photographs of top models and fashion, staying and playing at your resort.

How do people get rich? They invest in assets. Assets are not just brick and mortar. They are people, and services. They are images and nowadays increasingly videos. Videos of the inside of your property and the outside. This might include local attractions.

Which is a better view? One take from the ground of your hotel and swimming pool, golf course and or venue? Or one taken from the air, like a James Bond 007 No Time to Die, or a Mission Impossible epic film? Which is the most gripping? Of course: it’s the birds eye view. It is what pulls in customers like bees to honey.

Okay, so you now go to your neighbours and you ask the adolescent with his cheap but hi-quality HD or 4K drone, get me some videos. I’ll pay you well. He whips out his toy UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and without a licence to fly starts dive bombing your guests, or crashes through a window,  or just buzzes the neighbours and upset them. Suddenly, there’s a legal action against you. It’s not going away any time soon. The cops are now wanting to know about your licence? Where is it? You don’t have one. He’s not got one either. The insurance company won’t pay up. You get the drift.

Drone operators nowadays require licences, training and certification. They also require permission where and where they cannot fly. How high they fly matters. Are they near flight paths? All of these matter and great deal. So you think to yourself, why don’t I just buy a drone, learn to fly it, get a licence and hey presto, I can do it.

Not so fast on that idea! A modern UAV can cost $1000 USD or £750 GBP.  They have autopilots, are autonomous, have redundant autopilots, failsafe systems and GPS’s. They carry a heavy payload: a Gimbal and professional camera worth about $40,000 excluding lenses or $70,000 including lenses. (That’s £30,000 and £50,000 GBP respectively.)  Is it not looking so good now is it?

Any drone with a decent camera rig, good enough for what a hotel, golf course or location shoot will require is classified by the FAA as an aircraft. It operates under the same rules as aircraft with a 333 Exemption. This means it does not have a pilot in it, but the pilot has to be medically checked yearly and there’s a FAA biannual flight review. It’s all added costs. If you hire this person it’s your responsibility to check if they have the proper credentials. That’s where we come in. We take that problem and all of these problems away for you.

Costs will vary from between $2500 half day to $5500 for the whole day.  There will be the need of a two man ‘crew’ (a pilot and gimbal visual observer). We’d advise a third man to keep people out of harms way whilst filming. Drones are dangerous, period.

The director is an added value asset we provide. They work directly with the resorts marketing team. This means you get exactly what you want. It’s a bespoke service.

We can help you archive the material so that you can use it anytime. We can produce the edited version, as a full advert from this 4K raw footage. We can scale this so it is appropriate for Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter,  your website and for TV advertising. It’s an entire package produced by BAFTA award winning videographers and editors, with Hollywood scriptwriters at your disposal for an extra fee.

TOP TIPS ON DRONE SHOOTS

1. Don’t do it yourself,  otherwise if you are not 100% sure the operator has the relevant qualifications, medical checks, insurance, has passed their renewal tests, and have what is required, any problems and you could face serious legal cases. I’ll repeat it again: drones are dangerous, period.

2. Don’t rely on companies who have show reels. Show reels just tell you they can download Drone footage from the internet. Such footage means nothing. A child of 9 could download it and put it on a Wix.com website! We hire our teams in from any location on Earth and have a database of drone operators we will work with, because we are a professional film company (See Valery Danko Discovers Easter Island to see drone footage.)

3. Finally, think about what you are trying to produce. Is it cheap and nasty? Or is it something that has value over time, that will showcase your place? Because if you want the deluxe package, that is both drone and ground shoots, with top actors and actresses, then Perimetr Film is the only service that offers it all in one convenient package.

We solve your drone and video marketing needs using our one-stop-shop approach.
