When filming it is very important to obtain both a location release form and a personal release form for the places and people you film. However, it is also often overlooked that in some places you also need permits to film
What’s all the fuss?
Let’s face it, if you are filming in the middle of a desert you don’t expect to need permission. But that’s not the case in some parts of the USA.
In Monument Valley you definitely need a permit to film commercially. And that’s the law. You can get into big trouble not obtaining a permit.
When to Apply
It’s best to get your permit about 1 month before any location shoot, if this is required. This is because such permits are low down on the administration systems to-do list. They will take their time!
